JSI MEDIATION SUCCESSFULLY CALLED INTO ACTION

The two mediations both of which involved internal issues within in separate sporting organisations took place in the last three months were each conducted for €1,500 or less. More importantly both took place away from the public glare and allowed the issues to be resolved in a calm and controlled manner with the outcome negotiated by the parties themselves.

Both were also completed within strict timeframes as required by the repsective parties. In relation to the first mediation, the request for mediation was sumbitted on Friday with the mediation taking place the following Monday. The other mediations was completed within three months and took place over the course of 3 meetings.

Just Sport Ireland provides an arbitration and a mediation facility. If referral to JSI is provided for within the rules of a sporting organisation it can serve to protect a sport against the threat of court litigation.

Just Sport Ireland and how provision for it can be made by sports will be just one of the topics touched upon at the upcoming Sport & the Law Conference taking place on Saturday March 20th in the Law Soceity of Ireland from 9.30 am to 1pm.
