  Structure of the Organisation


Membership:
 
There are two categories of membership of the Federation of Irish Sports namely, full membership which is open to organisations recognised as National Governing Bodies by the Irish Sports Council and associate membership. Associate membership is open to sporting organisations whose principal objective is to promote sport and/or physical activity on a non-commercial basis.
 
Full membership is further broken down into the following seven categories based on participation numbers:-
  • Category 1: In excess of 75,000 participants;
  • Category 2: 20,000 - 75,000 participants;
  • Category 3: 10,000 - 20,000 participants;
  • Category 4: 5,000 - 10,000 participants;
  • Category 5: Less than 5,000 participants.

Executive Committee:
The Federation of Irish Sports is governed by an Executive Committee which is made up of a maximum of 14 individuals comprising the following:-
  • A representative from each of the aforementioned 5 categories of Full Membership;
  • 3 Officers;
  • A representative from the Associate Members;
  • A representative from a sporting organisation involved with disability sport; and
  • Up to 4 co-optees.
The Executive Committee is charged with directing strategy, supervising operations and ensuring that good governance principles are adhered to. The Officers once elected serve for 2 years with no officer allowed serve for more than 6 years in succession.
 
Officer elections will be held at the AGM in April 2009. Nominations for Officer positions must be submitted to the Secretary on the headed notepaper of a member organisation and signed by the President/Chairman of the nominating organisation no later than 7 days prior to the AGM.
 
The member representatives on the Executive Committee are elected each year at the AGM and serve for a period of 1 year but for no more than 6 consecutive years. Nominations for election to the Executive Committee must be submitted in writing to the Secretary on the headed notepaper of a member organisation and signed by the President/Chairman of the nominating organisation no later than 7 days prior to the AGM.
